Fundraising

I’ve really enjoyed my experience fundraising in the past few years - in the span of about 4 years, I’ve raised about £6,000: for my trip to the World Scout Jamboree, for my school, for the Congo Children’s Trust, the World Land Trust, the World Wildlife Fund, and Just One Tree. On top of my direct fundraising, I helped my local Scouts group triple their anticipated donations using new technology and a personal sales approach, and helped my Sixth Form’s Senior Team recover their losses quickly. Along the way, I’ve developed so many skills, and met so many inspiring people.

If you’re on the fence about fundraising, don’t forget about all the opportunity it brings:

  • You get a meaningful purpose, to build new skills around: for example, you could create a website, graphics or brand strategy, or get real-world experience with sales, financial forecasting, or risk and assurance.
  • It’s flexible: you can do as much as little as you want, and start projects at any scale, with any team, at any time. (I have lots of advice on some of the best events you can do, and when you can do them though!)
  • It feels good: even if you start small, or a big goal falls through, even a penny raised is a positive change.

Additionally, the skills you’ve gained and demonstrated could make you employable. I would never suggest that that should be your purpose directly, but it is a positive benefit you might discover.
